Michail Jurjewitsch Schechtman , also Michail Shekhtman ; until April 2019 Michail Antonenko, Russian Михаил Юрьевич Шехтман (born February 25, 1989 in Moscow ) is a Russian pianist and conductor .

Antonenko was born in Moscow in 1989. His parents are biochemists and work at Moscow State University . Antonenko has a Jewish mother and a Russian father. His older sister Jekaterina is the choir conductor and artistic director of the Intrada ensemble.

Antonenko started playing the piano at the age of six and had his first solo concert in Moscow at the age of seven. Since early childhood he received piano lessons in Moscow from Jelena Alexandrowa. 2004–2008 Antonenko studied at the Moscow State Conservatory of the Academic University of Music with Vera Khoroshina and organ with Natalia Gurejewa. He then continued his studies at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory with Pavel Nersessjan and attended master classes by Dmitri Bashkirov , Michail Jurowski and Teodor Currentzis .

Since 2007 Antonenko has been working constantly with the soprano Julia Leschnewa , whom he met at the Moscow Conservatory of Music. After studying with Grigori Sokolow , he performed in the Berlin and Vienna Konzerthaus , in the Hamburg Laeiszhalle , in the Amsterdam Muziekgebouw, in the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris , in the Tonhalle Zurich , in the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels , in the Budapest Liszt Academy, in the Melbourne Recital Center, in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, in the Great and Small Halls of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic , as well as at the festivals in Gstaad (Menuhin Festival), in San Sebastián , Torroella de Montgrí , Peralada and Moscow (December evenings by Svyatoslav Richter ).

Since December 2015 Antonenko has conducted orchestras regularly. On December 29, 2015, Antonenko made his debut on the stage in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory at the Yulia Lezhneva's New Year's Concert. In January 2016 Antonenko performed as a pianist at the Lucerne Convention Center and played the piano with the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra under the direction of James Gaffigan . In November 2016 Antonenko took part in a Christmas concert together with the Gewandhausorchester under the direction of Herbert Blomstedt in the Gewandhaus Leipzig .

On January 18, 2018, Antonenko performed in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory and made his debut with the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia . Antonenko led the First Piano Concerto of Beethoven made as a conductor and soloist, and also directed the opera arias, overtures by Mozart, Rossini , Donizetti and Meyerbeer with the participation of soprano and tenor Alexey Dilara Idrissova Tatarintsev.

On February 22, 2018, he made his debut with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra in Seoul . On May 30, 2018, Antonenko conducted a Mozart gala concert in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory.

He has had the surname Shekhtman since April 2019.

Antonenko made his first professional recording on Decca . He conducted the Ensemble Concerto Köln for Julia Lezhneva's world premiere of Graun's operatic arias on Decca (2017). The CD was presented as "CD of the Month" by Bavarian Radio .

Antonenko's concert repertoire ranges from Scarlatti and Couperin to Prokofiev and Shostakovich , with a focus on the works of JS Bach , WA Mozart , Ludwig van Beethoven and Schubert .
