The Granzower Möschen or Granzower See is a lake in the Mecklenburg Lake District in the Mecklenburg Lake District . On the east bank is the Mirow district of Granzow and on the southwest corner the small settlement Niemandslust .

Location and use

No motor boats are allowed on the lake, with the exception of watercraft from the Mirower passenger shipping company and locals with special permits. In Granzow there is a large holiday complex with a beach.

The body of water is located about eight kilometers southeast of the Müritz bank and spreads immediately northwest of Mirow . The lake is just under 1.2 kilometers long and up to 550 meters wide. In the north it goes over in a swampy environment into the Kleiner Kotzower See . In the north, north of Granzow, there is the Granzower Tannen forest area . The lake is not very structured. It has a wide south end and narrows towards the north. In the middle there is a small wooded island. The banks are almost completely lined with a belt of reeds. Usually there are also larger water lily fields here.

The Mirower Canal , the northwesternmost part of the Müritz-Havel waterway (MHW), runs about three kilometers south of the lake , and connects the Müritz with the lakes in the Mirow area. The Mirower Canal replaced the Alte Fahrt or the Alte Müritz-Havel-Wasserstraße, which flows into the Granzower Möschen from the north. The old MHW begins on the east bank of the Müritz with the Bolter Canal , which had a lock in the area of the Bolter Mühle , but it was filled in. Next close Caarpsee , Woterfitzsee , Leppinsee , Great and Little Kotzower lake south of and Lake Mirow on.

All lakes form a chain of lakes, which is used by paddlers as a branch route on the way from the Müritz. From the Mirower to the Leppinsee, ships with internal combustion engines are also allowed to travel. Caarp and Woterfitzsee are closed to vehicles with combustion engines.

The Alte Müritz-Havel waterway was the usual shipping route from the Havel to the Müritz before the Mirower Canal was built until the 1930s.
