The copper engraving cabinet is the special collection of drawings and prints , not just copper engravings , in a museum . For this reason, alternative terms of a more modern character such as "Graphic Collection" or "Graphic Cabinet" are also used for this.
The term cabinet is derived from a smaller room within a castle where a prince kept his special collections. It was also called the Wunderkammer or Kunstkabinett. These princely collections were the preliminary stage of the public museums.
There are large copper engraving cabinets, for example. B. in the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin , the Louvre in Paris, the Albertina in Vienna, the British Museum in London and the Metropolitan Museum of Art .
