Grave Miasma is an English death metal band from London , which was founded in 2002 under the name Goat Molestör .
history
The band was founded in 2002 under the name Goat Molestör. Under this name the demo Ancient Barbaric Assault and in 2005 the EP Realm of Evoked Doom was released . After the group had renamed itself in 2006 in Grave Miasma, the EP Exalted Emanation joined in September 2009 on Sepulchral Voice Records . The band also held gigs, including in Germany in 2006 . The sound carrier was later re-released on CD on Nuclear Winter Records . After appearances in Europe (including 2010 at the Hole in the Sky Festival in Bergen and 2011 with Necros Christos and Griftegård in Hamburg ) and the USA , the debut album Odori Sepulcrorum was released in September 2013 . In Canada the album was released in the same year on Profound Lore Records . After that, the group held other performances and was represented at the Beyond the Gates Festival in Bergen in 2014 . In 2016 the EP Endless Pilgrimage was released .
style
In his review of Odori Sepulcrorum , Robert Müller from Metal Hammer wrote that the band had previously played a primitive mixture of death and black metal in the style of Archgoat and Goatlord under the old name Goat Molestör . On this album, the band now plays "with all the linguistic and lyrical occultism with the current retro death metal mainstream". Occasionally the group also remembered Sun Adam and Paradise Lost . In the following issue, Yoni “Y” Ben-Haim said that almost every song begins with a ritual that involves psychedelic drugs . Then the individual songs would work on the material before fine-tuning in the rehearsal room. Death's Meditative Trance is based on a near-death experience while taking the hallucinogenic drug DMT (which is also the initials of the song title). The band also often use metaphors from Kabbalistic works. In an interview with Mandy Malon from Rock Hard , Ben-Haim stated that the song Yama Transforms to the Afterlife from the EP Endless Pilgrimage is based on the lyrics of the Katha Upanishad . However, the song represents less of his personal beliefs than his interpretation of the lyrics. One issue before, Sebastian Schilling had reviewed the EP, which featured occult death metal. The group use ordinary riffs and have more comprehensible and catchy songs without leaving a lasting impression.
