The Grays Peak is a mountain in the Front Range region of the Rocky Mountains in the US state of Colorado . At 4,350 meters, it is one of the 54 so-called " Fourteeners " in Colorado, the mountains over 14,000 feet (4,267 m) high.
The first ascent took place in 1861 by the botanist Charles C. Parry , who named the mountain after his colleague Asa Gray . Gray himself didn't see the mountain for the first time until 11 years later.
Grays Peak is the highest point on the continental divide and separates Clear Creek from Summit County . In the immediate vicinity is the almost equally high Torreys Peak . The Interstate 70 runs only a few kilometers away.
