Great Tuna (own spelling: Great Tuna! ) Was an alternative rock band from Detmold in North Rhine-Westphalia . Founder and head was the former singer and guitarist of the Speed Niggs , Christopher Uhe .

The band was a side project of Christopher Uhe, who played parallel in the bands Locust Fudge and Sharon Stoned, a successor to the Speed Niggs. Great Tuna became known as the opening act for the British band Oasis on their first tour of Germany in November 1994.

With a few exceptions, the songs on the first and only album Mattanza are catchy, audible and almost pop. Pieces like Lovely Soul or Love is like a Train are reminiscent of American bands like the Counting Crows or Soul Asylum and are definitely hit songs.

The album contains two songs, To a Friend and Philippe # 2 , which can also be heard in other versions on releases by the bands Sharon Stoned and Locust Fudge. A typical way of working of the songwriter Christopher Uhe.

The guest musicians on Mattanza include Markus Krüger from Maria Perzil and Dirk Dresselhaus from Hip Young Things .
