Mattanza is the only music album by the alternative rock band Great Tuna from Detmold in East Westphalia . It was released in 1994.

classification

The album Mattanza is part of an extremely creative phase of the songwriter Christopher Uhe between 1993 and 1996. In addition to Great Tuna, he was also a part of the duo Locust Fudge and played in the band Sharon Stoned, a remake of his original band Speed Niggs .

A hallmark of Mattanza that sets this album apart from all other Uhe releases is its extremely good transparency. With the exception of the title track, a bulky instrumental number, and the experimental To a Friend , all songs are very melody-oriented and seem very popping, sometimes almost kitschy. Pieces such as Lovely Soul or Love like a Train are reminiscent of American bands such as the Counting Crows or Soul Asylum and have hit qualities.

The album contains two songs, To a Friend and Philippe # 2 , which can also be heard in other versions on releases by the bands Sharon Stoned and Locust Fudge. A typical way of working of the songwriter Christopher Uhe.

The guest musicians on Mattanza include Markus Krüger from Maria Perzil and Dirk Dresselhaus from Hip Young Things .

Great Tuna presented itself to a larger audience on the British band Oasis' first tour of Germany in November 1994.

The term Mattanza ( it. "Slaughter" ) refers to the traditional tuna hunting off the coasts of Sicily and Sardinia and is synonymous with the Second Great Mafia War used in the early 1980s came in Sicily probably more than 1,000 people dead.
