Gretl Löwinger , also Gretel Löwinger ; actually Margaret Löwinger (born December 4, 1919 in Markl , Lower Austria ; † July 21, 1973 in Vienna ) was an Austrian folk actress , author and director .

Life

The younger sister of the popular actor Paul Löwinger was already on stage at the age of four. Even before she and her brother took over the management of the family-owned Löwinger stage , Gretl received artistic training at the Max Reinhardt Seminar . Gretl Löwinger not only worked as an actress, but also as an author and director of Löwinger plays.

Apart from two farmer's cocks in the early 1950s ( The Chaste Adam , Valentine's Fall of Man ), for which she also wrote the piece templates, Gretl Löwinger only appeared regularly in front of the camera since the early 1960s. Mostly it was ensemble works by the Löwinger family. The majority of these folk plays adapted for television were created as stage productions under Gretl Löwinger's direction. Until her unexpected death in the summer of 1973, Gretl Löwinger was active both as an actress and as a stage director.

Gretl Löwinger was married to the actor Erich Padalewski , with whom she already stood in front of the camera in 1960, when he made his television debut. The couple has two daughters.

She was buried in the grave of her parents in the cemetery in Ybbs an der Donau .
