Griesbach (Mähring)
Griesbach is a parish village in the Upper Palatinate district of Tirschenreuth , near the border with the Czech Republic and part of the market Mähring .
history
Griesbach was probably founded after 800 as a Franconian crown district, which was occupied by Franconian king farmers. The settlement of Griesbach was associated with the two Bohemian campaigns of Charlemagne in 805 and 806. Following these campaigns, Griesbach was brought into being with the surrounding Bach locations to secure the border. This thesis is reinforced by the fact that Griesbach has the parish church of St. Martin , which is dedicated to St. Martin , the patron saint of the Franconian Empire. Griesbach had already been given its own jurisdiction back then.
The former imperial village with several associated places was first mentioned in 1285 when Duke Heinrich XIII of Bavaria transferred the patronage rights of the Church of St. Martin zu Griesbach to the Reichenbach am Regen monastery . Even then, Griesbach was a parish. It is the highest parish in the Upper Palatinate (the church is 710 m above sea level ).
In 1296 King Adolf von Nassau pledged the imperial village of Griesbach with all its affiliations to the Waldsassen monastery . The decades-long border feuds between the Waldsassen monastery and Duke Heinrich XIII. of Bavaria on the one hand and the powerful Bohemian rule of the Seeberg zu Tachau on the other hand contributed to the desertification of Griesbach and numerous other villages in this area. Shortly after 1300 the "castrum" Griesbach was destroyed and the village of Griesbach was "oede".
In a document dated February 22, 1313, Emperor Heinrich VII gave Griesbach to the Waldsassen monastery, to which the right of patronage was also passed a few years later (1319).
What was once the third largest municipality in terms of area in the Tirschenreuth district consisted of Asch , Ebersberg , Griesbach, Groppenmühle , Laub , Lauterbach and Redenbach and was dissolved in 1978 and incorporated into the Mähring market.
Noble family
The lords of Griesbach , an old and widespread dynasty of that time, also sold their lordship rights and extensive possessions to the Waldsassen monastery, which was directly part of the empire. The coat of arms of the nobles (knights) of Griesbach shows in a shield a door reel ( door hinge ), what could come from the Bohemian border location: Griesbach as a gate (Törl near Reichenbach) on the ancient route to Bohemia . A family relationship with the Bohemian family Griespek von Griespach is not known.
