Grigna

The Grigna is a mountain group of the Bergamasque Alps (Lombard Prealps) in the province of Lecco , Lombardy , northern Italy with two peaks, the northern summit Grigna settentrionale ( Northern Grigna ) or Grignone ( Great Grigna , 2410  m slm ) and the lower southern summit Grigna meridionale ( Southern Grigna ) or Grignetta ( Kleine Grigna , 2177  m slm ).

geography

The dolomite rock of the Grigna group rises steeply in the southwest over an arm of Lake Como , the Lago di Lecco . In the east, the mountain slopes more gently over fields and wooded areas into Valsassina. The northern side of the mountain, known for its many caves and crevasses, descends over the Passo del Cainallo to Esino Lario . The Grigna has been part of the Parco Regionale della Grigna Settentrionale Natural Park since 2005 .

Hiking, climbing, mountain running

The easiest way to get to the Grignone starts in the southeast, in Ballabio in Valsassina. Further up in the valley is Pasturo , another traditional starting point for the ascent. The isolated location of the massif allows a panoramic view of the Alps to the north and, on a clear day, to the Milan Cathedral in the south-west.

The Brioschihütte is located on the summit of the Grignone , at the foot of the Grigna are the Biettihütte , the Boganihütte , the Pialeral and the Rosalba hut.

The climbing routes of the east face of the Grignone were developed by the well-known Italian alpinists Walter Bonatti , Riccardo Cassin and Carlo Mauri .

The alpinist group Gruppo Ragni della Grignetta ( CAI Lecco), founded in 1946, became internationally known by opening up new spectacular climbing routes and summit ascents on all continents in the new alpine technical style.

Every year in September there is a 43 km long mountain run over the two Grigna peaks, the Trofeo Scaccabarozzi , with start and finish in Pasturo .
