Life

Grit Beer was elected to the citizenship of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck in 1974, to which she belonged until 1982. She was a member of the district board of the Lübeck CDU, but left the party in December 1981. She justified her resignation with the "the principles of the CDU contradicting personnel policy in the Lübeck district association" and spoke of a "rigorous personnel policy, the one in Bonn as a member of the Bundestag without Any effectiveness and influence remaining district chair Ekkehart Eymer operates in Lübeck to the detriment of the CDU ” . Her criticism was directed against the selection of candidates for the citizenship election in Lübeck on March 7, 1982. Several years later she rejoined the party.

In 1988 she entered the state parliament of Schleswig-Holstein via the CDU state list . In the state parliament she devoted herself in particular to school policy. In 1989, in the debate about a Schleswig-Holstein School Act, Grit Beer saw a restriction on parental participation through the planned participation of pupils from the eighth grade in the school conference.

In internal party disputes about Heiko Hoffmann , then opposition leader in the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament, she stood before the CDU politician together with other MPs and found herself in opposition to the CDU general secretary Peter-Uwe Conrad and the CDU state chairman Ottfried Hennig . At the end of the legislative period in 1992, she left the state parliament.

From her marriage to Manfred R. Beer she has a daughter, the London-based opera singer Birgit Beer . On the occasion of her mother's death, Birgit Beer said: "My mother was very close to the people on the street."
