Great Synagogue in Tykocin
Interior view with Bima (2013)

The Great Synagogue in Tykocin , a Polish city in the Podlaskie Voivodeship , was built in 1642 on the site of a previous wooden building from the 15th century. The secular synagogue on Kozia-Strasse, next to the Small Synagogue , has been a protected cultural monument since 1957 .

Besides the synagogue in the Belarusian city of Slonim , this is the only synagogue from the 17th century in which the supporting bima has been preserved almost unchanged.

The baroque synagogue was devastated by the German occupiers during World War II and used as a warehouse. In the 1970s the building was renovated.

Today a Jewish museum is housed in the synagogue building.
