The Große Möggelinsee is a lake in the district of the town of Zossen in the Teltow-Fläming district in the state of Brandenburg .

geography

The body of water is located south of the city center and there to the west of the Lindenbrück district . To the east lies the Egsdorf district of the city of Teupitz, south of the Lindenbrück district of Zesch am See . The water is part of the nature reserve Großer and Kleiner Möggelinsee .

history

The lake is of natural origin, arose after the Vistula Ice Age and is mainly fed by groundwater. However, the connection to the Kleiner Zeschsee was probably created by humans in the Middle Ages . This also applies to the runoff in the northeast, which leads into the Kleiner Möggelinsee . Experts from the State of Brandenburg justify this assumption with straightened sections and some recognizable punctures. The connections are already available in the Schmettauschen map series .

With the establishment of the military training area in Zossen, the lake was also part of a restricted military area, but not used militarily, but only intensively for fishing . The GSSD also fished the water and built platforms in the water, walkways, a sewer system and some buildings on the west bank for use. They also used a property located between the Small and the Large Möggelinsee, which was destroyed by vandalism in autumn 1994 and finally burned down.

In 2010 there was an oxygen deficiency in the lake, as a result of which the fish stock died. On the part of the owner there was a restocking with eels , pikeperch and carp .

Condition and use

Studies from 1994 to 2008 describe the lake as weakly polytrophic . This was due, on the one hand, to the intensive use of the past decades and, on the other hand, to the improvement measures carried out . In 2015 the lake was leased, but no longer used for fishing.

The water is surrounded by an almost closed belt of reed beds ; Occasionally sea and pond roses grow on the surface . Underwater plants such as the great mermaid or the rough horn leaf are only sporadic. The eastern part of the lake is heavily silted up. This is where crayfish claws and frog bites grow, among other things . The crucian carp and the otter have been detected in the water .
