The race
The Rome Grand Prix had a long tradition and was held in various racing classes with interruptions from 1925 to 1991. From 1963, the races took place on the Vallelunga circuit. The first race to be held as the Rome Grand Prix was a Formula Libre race on Monte Mario near Rome in 1925 , which ended with Carlo Masetti winning in a Bugatti . The last time the Grand Prix was driven in 1991 according to the 3000 racing formula ; Alessandro Zanardi won on a Reynard .
The racing event has a special significance in the history of Ferrari . Franco Cortese won in 1947 and drove a Ferrari 125 Spyder . It was the first race win for the then still young sports car manufacturer.
In 1965 there were two events known as the Rome Grand Prix. A Formula 2 race that Richard Attwood won in a Lola T60 in front of his teammates Anthony Maggs and Jochen Rindt ( Brabham BT16 ). And a sports car race that ended with Lorenzo Bandini's overall victory in the Ferrari Dino 166P .
