View of the north-eastern flank of the Großer Rettenstein. The summit is on the middle of the three rock peaks. |
The Great Rettenstein is 2366 m above sea level. A. high, multi-peaks mountain in the Kitzbühel Alps . Although not the highest (that is the Kreuzjoch at 2558 m ), the Große Rettenstein is the most striking peak in the Kitzbühel Alps, most of which are gentle, grassy mountains. The Rettenstein, however, has a rugged summit structure made of dolomite , which sits in a four hundred meter thick layer on the mountain foot made of quartz phyllite . The Rettenstein is the dominant summit of the Spertental . Due to its isolated location, it is known as an excellent viewpoint and is accordingly popular. To the north, the Rettenstein sends out the elongated crest of the spike nails that separate the upper and lower ground .
nature
The Rettenstein is located in the Spertental-Rettenstein nature reserve and you can find stone pines , spruces, gentians , swallowtail gentians, platenigl , edelweiss, blue monkshood , snow grouse, black grouse and capercaillie, red deer, chamois and ibex, ibex and marmots on the Rettenstein .
Tourist development
The easiest approach is from Aschau in Spertental over the lower reason and the Schöntalalm in three to four hours. Surefootedness is required for this path . If you are in good physical condition, the long ridge hike over the Spießnägel is recommended as a descent variant.
Another possibility of ascent is possible from the south via the Mühlbachtal (municipality of Bramberg ) in Oberpinzgau . Here the path initially runs over a drivable forest path (not public, closed) over the Baumgartenalm to almost the Stangenjoch.
