The Kröndlhorn is 2444  m above sea level. A. high mountain in the Kitzbühel Alps in Austria . It is one of the highest mountains on the ridge line of the Kitzbühel Alps. The border from Tyrol to Salzburger Land runs over its summit .

location

The Kröndlhorn rises north of the Salzach Valley , southeast of the Kelchsau Valley and southwest of the Windau Valley . From the summit of the Kröndelhorn a side ridge line of the main ridge line of the Kitzbühel Alps goes out in an arc to the north. This mountain ridge surrounds the cirque, in which a mountain lake, the Reinkarsee , has formed at an altitude of 2194  m . This cirque is the main source area of the Windauer Ache .

In front of the summit of the Kröndlhorn in the north is the only four meters lower summit of the Kröndlberg ( 2440  m , location ), which first appears as the actual summit when climbing from the north.

To the northwest of the summit is the Neue Bamberger Hütte in the Kelchsau Valley.

summit

There is a small chapel on the summit of the Kröndlhorn that can accommodate a maximum of two people. There is a stamp and the summit book in it . The chronicle in the chapel recalls the tragic death of a 6-year-old girl in 1893; the farmer Bartholomäus Pöll had it built in 1903 after recovering from a serious illness. The chapel was rebuilt in 1955. Death notes have been hung on the inner walls of the chapel for years .

When the weather is clear, the summit allows a wide view to the south of the Pinzgau , the Reichenspitz group and large parts of the Hohe Tauern as well as the Krimml waterfalls .

Use of the mountain

Above the tree line , the open slopes are used as grazing grounds for sheep, goats, cows and horses. Sheep herds in particular can be found near Lake Reinkarsee in summer. A material cable car leads from the wood storage area to the Rotwand-Grundalm ( Lage ).

The hiking trails are all marked with tree and ground markings.

Routes

From the Windau valley , which can be reached via Hopfgarten im Brixental and Westendorf in the north: The foot of the mountain can be reached by car on a partially unpaved and toll road. There are parking spaces at the Gamskogelhütte, a little above in the valley and further down the valley at the wood storage area ( 1297  m ) below the Rotwand-Grundalm . The ascent can be done via two main routes. The technically easier, but longer route leads from the Baumgartenalm via the Oberkaralm along the southeast face of the Schneegrubenspitze ( 2237  m ) to the Reinkarsee. The shorter path goes from the parking lot at the wood storage area through a short forest steeply up to the Rotwand-Grundalm ( 1597  m ). From there it goes on to the Rotwand-Hinttalalm ( 1830  m ) and in a long slope crossing to the Reinkarsee. Both paths meet here and lead in a south-westerly direction up to the Kröndlberg. From here a partly steep and surefooted ascent to the summit about 300 meters south begins .

Another route leads from the east over the Trattenbachalm along the Trattenbach to the summit.

From the Neue Bamberger Hütte in the Kelchsau valley, the summit from the north over the Nadernachjoch and the southwest flank is reached in 2½ hours.

From the south ( Hinterwaldberg , Ronachwirt) the ascent takes place over the Nadernachbachtal to the Nadernachjoch and again over the southwest flank.
