Sports big star

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Stars of Sports are a competition for sports clubs that the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) has been running together with the German Volksbanks and Raiffeisenbanks since 2004. The award associated with the competition recognizes the socio-politically effective range of services of sports clubs and their special voluntary commitment. The stars of sport are also referred to as the "Oscar of popular sport" in Germany. According to the DOSB and the Volksbanken and Raiffeisenbanken, the declared aim of the competition is to honor the often outstanding performance of sports clubs against the background of socio-political challenges. This commitment, which regularly goes beyond the statutory purpose of the association, is awarded the Stars of Sport and thus presented to the public.

Announcement, prerequisites for participation and application

The competition is advertised at the local level by the participating Volksbank or Raiffeisenbank. The application period usually runs from the beginning of April to the end of June each year. All sports clubs organized under the umbrella of the DOSB can take part, i.e. all sports clubs that are members of state sports federations, leading associations or sports associations with special tasks. It is not necessary for the sports club to be a customer of the bank to which it is applying. Sports clubs that meet the prerequisites for participation and want to take part in the competition apply during the tendering phase of the competition exclusively online on the website of the Volksbank or Raiffeisenbank in whose business area the sports club has its statutory seat.

Award

The competition is carried out on three levels:

At the local level (“bronze level”), the best of all applications will be awarded the “Big Star of Sports” in bronze. Responsible for this is the Volksbank or Raiffeisenbank issuing the tender, together with the locally responsible subdivision of organized sport, i.e. the district or city sports association ("bronze partner").

At the level of the federal states (“silver level”), the best application of all winners of the “Big Star of Sports” in bronze will be awarded the “Big Star of Sports” in silver. The regional cooperative association responsible for the state is responsible for this together with the state sports federation / state sports association ("silver partner") responsible for the state. Lower Saxony is an exception, where the Weser-Ems region has its own “Big Star of Sports” in silver.

The evaluation is carried out at the municipal and state level by a jury made up of representatives from sport, the bank, the municipality and the media.

Award winners

First place at federal level is endowed with 10,000 euros, second place with 7,500 euros and third place with 5,000 euros.
