The Dreiherrenstein on the Great Weissenberg is a historical boundary stone at 740 m altitude on the Great Weissenberg in the Thuringian Forest . It is located about 5 km west of the Großer Inselsberg on the Rennsteig . For centuries, this tri-gentile stone marked the borders of the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen , the Duchy of Saxony-Coburg and Gotha as well as the Electorate of Hesse . Even today the Dreiherrenstein forms a border point: This is where the districts of Gotha (with the district Winterstein ), the district Schmalkalden-Meiningen (with the district Brotterode ) and the Wartburg district (with the district Steinbach ) meet.
On Dreiherrenstein starts Breitunger Rennsteig , it leads south to Breitungen . In addition to the Waldschänke excursion restaurant, there has also been a monument to Victor von Scheffel since 1913 . With his work: In the Beginning (1863) he helped the Rennsteig to gain further fame.
