Gustav Großmann (born January 2, 1893 in Groß Jerutten , Masuria ; † May 29, 1973 ) was a German psychologist , writer , rationalization specialist and the originator of the psychotechnology named after him, the "Großmann method".

life and work

Großmann studied philosophy , economics , statistics and psychology at the University of Berlin , the University of Freiburg and the University of Königsberg . In 1920 he was in Konigsberg Dr. phil. doctorate (dissertation: The essence of the satisfaction of needs ) and then worked as an assistant to the psycho- technicians Walter Moede and Curt Piorkowski in Berlin. After various organizational and advertising activities, he became advertising manager at R. Oldenbourg Verlag in Munich in 1926 .

During the First World War , Großmann sustained severe war injuries, which prompted him to develop a system for self-realization and performance enhancement, the later so-called "Großmann Method" (GM). In professional journals he published articles on the topic of "rationalization" and summarized the articles in a book that appeared in 1927 under the title Rationalize Yourself . In the same year he started his own business as a “specialist in personal working methods”. In his method, Großmann placed the individual personality, inner attitude and emotionality in the center of attention and saw his method as an organic system of the art of living. Großmann traced his philosophical approaches back to Schopenhauer and Nietzsche , and Alfred Adler's psychology also had a great influence .

In the course of his life he introduced distance learning as a licensee (17,000 people according to his own information) to his proprietary method and founded the so-called "Großmann Methodiker Guilds" for his former seminar participants. His main work Rationalize oneself was revised and reissued several times by him until the 1970s. The members of the method for analysis, planning and problem-solving techniques (for example, Personal situation analysis, schedules of life plan until the day's schedule Formed, happiness diary ) formed a closed system that was based on the basic idea of the "utility bidding". Of particular importance was the development of the (life) goals, for the sustainability of which both the individual characteristics and inclinations of the individual and the benefit for the community were decisive.

Großmann published numerous advanced writings with instructions on his method.

Posthumous development

The exploitation rights of the Großmanns method were acquired from Manfred Helfrecht († 2020). In addition, various pupils of Großmann continued to work with his method after his death. In addition, further Freudes and working groups were formed in Germany, whose work is based on the Großmann method.
