The large stone grave Schernikau is a megalithic grave complex of the Neolithic deep-engraving ceramic culture near Schernikau , a district of Bismark (Altmark) in the Altmark district of Salzwedel in Saxony-Anhalt .

location

The grave is located east of Schernikau in a small wooded area on the edge of a forest path. A few meters to the northeast is a large burial mound .

Research history

The grave remained undiscovered by Johann Friedrich Danneil in the 1830s and 1840s and by Eduard Krause and Otto Schoetensack in the two large photographs of the Altmark stone graves , as it was probably still completely covered with soil at that time. The complex has only been included in the list of archaeological monuments in Saxony-Anhalt, but has not yet been described in scientific literature. The neighboring burial mound was archaeologically examined in 1975 by employees of the Altmark Museum in Stendal .

description

The facility is badly damaged. Several erratic boulders have been preserved, which are scattered over an area of around 12 m × 5 m. No information is available for guidance. The exact type of grave is unknown.
