Great stone grave Thüritz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Thüritz large stone grave was a megalithic burial complex of the Neolithic deep-engraving ceramic culture near Thüritz , a district of Kalbe (Milde) in the Altmark district of Salzwedel , Saxony-Anhalt . The grave was destroyed in the 19th century.

location

The grave was located about 3 km east of Winterfeld bei Thüritz in a parcel called "Thüritzer Gehren".

Research history

The facility was first documented in the 1830s by Johann Friedrich Danneil . When the great stone graves of the Altmark were taken up again in the 1890s , Eduard Krause and Otto Schoetensack discovered that the grave had since been completely removed in the course of the separation .

description

The grave was apparently already badly damaged when Danneil was taken. A stone enclosure could no longer be determined. The burial chamber was probably oriented east-west. More precise information is not available, so it is no longer possible to determine the type of grave.

A stone pack that enclosed a small urn is a special finding . Although this was crushed, its shape could clearly be reconstructed. It was 15.6 cm high and was apparently undecorated. It was half filled with bones. It should have been a reburial from the Middle or Late Bronze Age .
