The Groningerland is a ferry that operates between Borkum , Emden and Eemshaven .

The ship

The keel of the car ferry and passenger ship was laid on August 27, 1990 at the Husum shipyard . After the ship was launched on April 16, 1991, the shipyard was able to deliver the ship, named Hilligenlei (3) by godmother Gertraut Jakobs, on the 26th of the month. It was used by the Wyker steamship shipping company between Schlüttsiel , the Halligen and Wittdün on Amrum .

In 2002 the Hilligenlei 3 was replaced by the Hilligenlei (4) and launched in Husum.

In 2006 the ship was bought by AG Ems and has since been used as Groningerland in traffic to the North Sea island of Borkum. The ship is often not used in winter.
