The Groote Beek , also known as the Great Beek , is a watercourse on the island of Usedom . The stream begins east of the village of Pudagla on Schmollensee and runs about 2.1 kilometers in a north-westerly direction through a damp lowland to the backwater . A southern branch, which was shown in older maps and ran approximately in an east-west direction, no longer has access to the backwaters.

1273 the then with the Slavic name was Pritolniza called Bach together with the village Pudagla the Pomeranian Duke Barnim I the Monastery Grobe given. In addition to the fishing rights, permission to build a mill was granted.

In the 20th century, the Groote Beek, near its western mouth, was connected to the now silted Paschensee, which in earlier centuries was also known as the Paskensee. During amelioration measures , the valley of the Grooten Beek was crossed with drainage ditches for grassland reclamation. Dikes were built on both sides of the water to protect against storm floods .

The federal road 111 crosses the Groote Beek near Pudagla . A second crossing is at the western mouth.
