The Grotte Scladina ( French Grotte de Sclayn ) not far from the Meuse in the "Rue Fond des Vaux" in Sclayn near Andenne ( Belgium ) is an archaeological and paleoanthropological site. It has been researched since its discovery in 1971 by the non-profit association “Archeology of the Ardennes” with the help of the City of Andenne and the Walloon Region with the scientific support of the University of Liège .

As a result of the work, two layers were uncovered, which testify to a use by the Neanderthals , of which the oldest evidence goes back about 130,000 years. The bones of a 10 year old girl were discovered. In 2019, parts of the DNA of their cell nucleus were sequenced and - as in the almost equally old find from Hohlenstein-Stadel - indications of a closer genetic proximity of the fossil with the later Neanderthals living in Western Europe 40,000 years ago than with the almost equally old Neanderthals from Siberia were found , which was interpreted as evidence of a continuous history of settlement in Western Europe.

The good conservation of the remains and the surrounding sediments has made this site a reference for research into climate development in north-western Europe and has contributed to its research by researchers and prehistorians from all over the world from the beginning of the last interglacial until the middle of the last ice age could be.

The anatomically modern man (the so-called Cro-Magnon man ) was also on site in the Paleolithic (between 32,000 and 9,000 BC) and used the cave as a burial site as early as the Neolithic (between 5,300 and 2,000 BC).

Molecular genetic studies using the mitochondrial DNA of woolly rhinos from the grotto revealed that the species was most closely related to the Sumatran rhinoceros .

In addition to the excavation work and the preservation of the archaeological relics, the Ardennes Ardennes Association has set itself the task of informing the public about the prehistory.
