Grou ( Dutch Grouw ) is a village in the municipality of Leeuwarden in the Dutch province of Friesland . It has 5,655 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) and is located on the Prinses-Margriet Canal .
Until the municipal reform in 1984, Grou was the main town of the former Idaarderadeel municipality , then the main town of Boarnsterhim municipality . Since January 1st 2014 the place belongs to Leeuwarden. In 1989 the West Frisian name became the official name of the village.
Economy and Infrastructure
Grou has a harbor that is mainly used by water sports enthusiasts.
The place is on the A32 motorway and has a train station on the Zwolle – Leeuwarden railway line , which is served by passenger traffic.
