The Clara mine is a mine in Oberwolfach in the Black Forest , where the industrial minerals barite and fluorspar are mined .

meaning

The pit is known because over 375 different minerals have been found so far (as of November 2004), including some very rare ones. The mouth of the pit is in the rear part of the Rankach valley. The processing plant is located near Wolfach-Kirnbach in the Kinzigtal . In total, over 3 million tons of barite and over 2 million tons of fluorspar have been mined in the Clara mine since 1898. Barite is used, among other things, for soundproofing, radiation protection and in the deep drilling industry in the heavy beet. Fluorspar, also known as fluorite, is used in the metal industry as a superplasticizer (e.g. in welding electrodes), in the glass and ceramics industry and in the chemical industry for the production of hydrofluoric acid .

The mine operated by the Sachtleben Bergbau company is the last active of the many mines that were once operated in the Black Forest.

The most common minerals are azurite , barite , chrysocolla , claraite , cornwallite , fluorite , goethite , clinoclase , copper , malachite , pyrite , pyromorphite , mimetite , proudite , silver and scorodite .

Mineral dump

The different minerals can be searched for on separate raw ore heaps on the mineral dump of the Clara mine in Wolfach-Kirnbach.

museum

In the Mineral Museum in Oberwolfach in the district of Kirche, over 200 minerals from the mine are on display.

geology

The crevices of the mine belong to the Friedrich-Christian-Herrensegen fault zone in the Black Forest gneiss complex.

Type localities

The pit Clara is named after the mineral for Clarait and type locality for the following minerals: Agardit- (Ce) , Arsenbrackebuschit , Arsenocrandallit , Arsenogorceixit , Arsenogoyazit , Bariopharmakosiderit , Benauit , Bismutostibiconit , Clarait, Cualstibit , Phosphofibrit , Phyllotungstit , Rankachit , Rhabdophan- (Ce) , Tungstibit and Uranotungstite .
