history

The name Kirnbach comes from the Middle High German word Kürn (= mill). The place was first mentioned in 1275 as Kurnbach or Kurenbach . Kirnbach belonged to the domain of the Lords of Hornberg . The place went by marriage to Duke Reinhold von Urslingen and after his death to the line of Geroldsecker from Sulz . Through this, Kirnbach and the entire Upper Office of Hornberg fell to the Kingdom of Württemberg .

In the frontier agreement between the Kingdom of Würtemberg and the Grand Duchy of Baden , which was concluded in Paris on October 2, 1810, several "staffs" of the Hornberg District Office, such as the municipality of Kirnbach, the towns of Hornberg and Schiltach and the municipality of Gutach, came to the Grand Duchy of Baden .

The place was an independent municipality and was incorporated into the city of Wolfach on January 1, 1975.
