The Kirnbach is an approximately 8 km long Black Forest river in the Kirnbach district of Wolfach in the Ortenaukreis in Baden-Württemberg , which flows into the Kinzig from the left and southeast between Wolfach itself and Hausach .

course

The Kirnbach flows through the Wolfach district of Kirnbach , one of the three Bollenhut villages in the Black Forest. It arises as a Rotsalbächle on the edge of the district to the Schiltacher Moosenmättle, which after about four kilometers of winding western run converges with the shorter, but hardly less catchment area, left Grafenlochbächle to the Kirnbach. This then flows, more in the inlet direction of the Grafenlochbächles, approximately northwest to the mouth. The Kirnbach is 8.1 km long from the source of the Rotsal brook near Moosenmättle to the mouth.

The catchment area of 17.1 km² borders in the north-northeast on that of the upward Kinzig, in the east-southeast over the Rotsalbach on that of the Sulzbach running to Schiltach in Schramberg , whose water also reaches the upward Kinzig via Lauterbach and Schiltach. In the south-east and south, creeks compete mainly to the left Kirnbach-Oberlauf Grafenlochbächle on the other side, which are heading towards the Gutach- Oberlauf Reichenbach . Beyond the southwestern watershed, the Gutach itself runs almost parallel to the downward Kinzig.

The highest elevation of the catchment area is the 871.9  m above sea level. NN high Moosenkapf above the source at Moosenmättle, part of the turned away semicircle from mountains, in which the slightly higher Mooswaldkopf is already outside.

The Kirnbach flows through the scattered settlement village of the same name, which now runs through the entire valley, past old farms and the church in Obertal, and flows into the Kinzig between Wolfach and Hausach . Its Kerbtal, which only recently expanded in the Untertal, can be hiked along the small but wild river on a hiking trail.
