geography

course

The Lauterbach rises in the municipality of Lauterbach below the Mooswaldkopf and the Fohrenbühl pass and, after almost 8 km, flows quite steadily eastwards in Schramberg below the Bruckbeck into the Schiltach. The gradient from the source to the confluence with the Schiltach is around 340 m. Its tributary Sulzbach , which flows into the middle course in the village of Lauterbach from the northwest, contributes just as much to its catchment area as its own upper course up to there.

Catchment area

The catchment area of the Lauterbach covers 23.3 km². In terms of nature, it belongs to the Central Black Forest of the large Black Forest landscape . The highest point is 880  m above sea level. The summit of the Mooswaldkopf on the western edge, which reaches NHN .

In turn, the catchment areas of the following neighboring waters are adjacent:

  • Beyond the entire northeastern watershed, the lower Schiltach flows from the Lauterbach estuary to its own estuary in the Kinzig .
  • In the south, the adjacent area drains to the central Schiltach, which at least in sections is also locally called Berneck .
  • In the west, the Reichenbach picks up the drain on the other side and leads it to the Gutach in Hornberg , which feeds the Kinzig much further down.
  • In the north, the relatively smaller Kirnbach and Eulersbach rivers flow to the Kinzig.
