history

Orifice of the Viktoriastollen

1867 saw the awarding of the pit Victoria, who was at that time a total of five pits. The operator was the Viktoriastollen union . The Viktoriastollen, the main floor of the mine, was driven forward in 1897 , and the mining field began about 48 m after the mouth hole . An upper level existed about 50 m higher above this tunnel. In 1904 4 more pits were added to the mine complex. A foundation excavation is mentioned from 1912. The first dismantling took place around 1925, and the first shutdown took place in 1928, as the slate found was probably too soft. During this period of operation, an average of 45 people were employed, production sank from 15,000 running at the beginning to 2,000 running at the end.

By foreclosure auction in 1936, the business was transferred to Schieferbergbau und Vertriebsgesellschaft mbH Kaub , but operations were closed again in 1939 due to particularly strong water inflows .

In 1940 the mine was taken over by the company Puricelli'sche Betriebsgesellschaft from Rheinböllen , which had successfully managed the Wilhelm Erbstollen mine in Kaub since 1870 . In 1951 the mine was operated on a larger scale and the slate that was extracted was considered to be easy to cut and split. In the following years around 10,000 tons of slate were mined. However, after more and more disturbances occurred and the water inflows increased more and more, the company was finally closed at the end of the 1950s.

On July 13, 1958, a waterworks was opened at the Viktoriastollen.
