List of mines in the Taunus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Taunus is mining documented since 1495, but was probably already in Roman times and had mostly only regional importance. Initially, lead, silver, gold and copper were mined. In the 19th century iron and, to a lesser extent, coal. Ore mining ended in the 20th century. In the vicinity of the Wisper there was also heavy underground mining of slate.

The spatial delimitation of the Taunus, which is certainly debatable, was taken for this list to the north with the Lahn , to the west with the Rhine , to the south with the Rhine and Main and to the east with the Wetterau .

Ore mining

This incomplete list of ore mines in the Taunus includes mines, subdivided according to federal states into the respective districts as well as the cities and municipalities there or associated municipalities.
