geography

The place is located in the western Hintertaunus in the middle of the nature park Rhein - Taunus , about 10 km west of Idstein and the A3 Cologne - Frankfurt and 20 km north of the state capital Wiesbaden . The surrounding villages are Panrod and Daisbach in the north, Strinz-Trinitatis in the east and Strinz-Margarethä in the south.

history

Hennethal was first mentioned in a document in 1392 as Hedenthal . The name may be a reference to the legendary figure of the giant Hedo . Two mills, the Bahnermühle and the Obermühle were part of the village. In 1562 the place received the first village school in Nassau . In 1703 the Protestant church was built over the foundation walls of a chapel.

On July 1, 1972, the previously independent community of Hennethal formed the new large community of Hohenstein together with six other communities on a voluntary basis as part of the regional reform in Hesse . For Hennethal, as for the other districts, a local district with a local advisory board and local councilor was established.
