List of mines in the Sauerland

The list of mines in the Sauerland shows the pits, mines, tunnels and other operating points in the Sauerland that are subject to mining law . The ore mining in the Sauerland was mainly used to mine iron, copper, zinc and lead. In addition, shale , barite , pebbles and, to a lesser extent, coal were extracted.

Lennestadt

Around Meggen alone there were 175 pits and 6 hereditary tunnels around 1871. An analysis of the Meggen pebbles in 1856 showed a composition of 47.5% sulfur, 43.5% iron and 8% silica. An analysis of the iron stone showed: 66% iron and 2% silica alumina.
