Eversberg is a district of the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Meschede in the Arnsberg Forest Nature Park . On December 31, 2017, Eversberg had 1,718 inhabitants.
history
Already in the 11th century put Count Eberhard of Arnsberg today as ruins preserved castle Eversberg and two circular walls. In 1242 Count Gottfried III founded von Arnsberg Eversberg and in 1243 granted the Lippe town charter as well as its own minting and jurisdiction. In 1247 Archbishop Konrad of Cologne granted the city church baptism and burial rights . With the county of Arnsberg Eversberg became Electoral Cologne in 1369 .
The Gogericht ruled in 1453 a dispute between Eversberg and Velmede . In this context, the first Velmeder Schnadezug took place. The traditional pulls that still take place today go back to this.
Eversberg belonged to the Hanseatic League from the 16th century.
Cloth making played an important role, the products of which were mainly sold in the eastern regions of France by local traveling traders in the 18th century.
With the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803, Eversberg came under the rule of the later Grand Duchy of Hesse as part of the Duchy of Westphalia . After the Congress of Vienna in 1815, it belonged to the Prussian province of Westphalia as the mayor of Eversberg in the Meschede district . It initially belonged to the Eversberg office, which was renamed the Bestwig office around 1840 . As part of the municipal reorganization, Eversberg became a district of Meschede on January 1, 1975.
In 1981 Eversberg was awarded the federal gold medal as the most beautiful village in the Federal Republic of Germany in the competition “ Our village should be more beautiful ”. Detlev Buck shot here for his film LiebesLuder in 2000 .

A black boar in silver, floating above it a blue shield leaning to the right, with a gold-armored silver eagle. Description: A secretion seal handed down from 1348 shows a boar as a seal image and a right-leaning shield with the Arnsberg eagle floating above it. The Arnsberg coat of arms collection also shows the same picture. From 1917 to 1937 the city had a somewhat different coat of arms. There the shield was divided by blue and silver, at the top a silver, sloping gold-armored eagle, at the bottom a black boar. The coat of arms was made official by a resolution of the city council in 1937. |
Attractions
From the castle Eversberg the ruins of the keep is only obtained, which is freely accessible as a lookout. In one of the numerous half-timbered and slate houses in the historic town center, the museum for rural handicraft and industrial history, landscape and cultural development is housed. It documents living and working in the place. In the center is the Catholic parish church of St. John the Evangelist from the 13th century.
Near Eversberg is located on the B 55 the military cemetery Eversberg with victims of the Second World War, mainly during the Ruhr pocket died -Schlacht.
The Lörmecke Tower , the Warsteiner Forest next to the highest point of the southern neighbor Warstein stands or near the highest point of the nature park Arnsberg Forest and was inaugurated on June 7, 2008 serves as a viewing option among other things, the nature park.
