history

In 1848, the Eickhoff cloth factory was built on the Drüer Bridge below Wehrstapel. In the same year, the manufacturer Langenscheidt built a chain forge, the so-called "roller". With industrialization, a settlement with workers' apartments emerged, which belonged to Eversberg and was later named "Heinrichsthal" after the manufacturer and company founder.

Under the factory owner Heinrich Eickhoff, the company expanded from 1858 to 1872. The Eickhoff brothers ran a wool spinning mill from 1969 in the former chain forge. In 1895 a total of 234 inhabitants lived in seven buildings. In 1897 a slate quarry was put into operation. Several houses were built south of the Landstrasse around 1930. As part of the municipal reorganization, Heinrichsthal became a district of Meschede on January 1, 1975.
