Remblinghausen is a district of Meschede in the Hochsauerlandkreis . On December 31, 2017, Remblinghausen had 1,091 inhabitants.

history

An earlier settlement during the Neolithic Age is attested by an amphibolite working ax found south of Gut Horbach on the Heuscheid . The peculiarity of the ax is that the exactly cylindrically drilled shaft hole is shifted unusually far towards the cutting edge. The place was first mentioned in a document with "Sifridus de Remelinchusen" in 1242. The parish was mentioned for the first time in 1259 with its pastor "Ecbertus". At that time it belonged to the women's monastery in Meschede and owned the four main and Schultenhöfe Drasenbeck , Horbach, Wulstern and Köttinghausen in the Remblinghausen parish . In addition, the Grafschaft monastery also had some ownership rights.

In 1961 the place had 1,740 inhabitants with an area of 46.01 km².

On January 1, 1975 Remblinghausen was incorporated into the district town of Meschede.

The Meschede Abbey had the right to present , i.e. That is, it was allowed to propose and pay the pastor and was the church patron . This right was confirmed in 1319 by Archbishop Heinrich II, the cantor of the monastery.

According to the inscription, today's church was built in 1754. The interior still looks almost Gothic due to the narrow, pointed arched cross vaults between the belts and the drawn-in choir with a 3-sided end. The church has a stately west tower from 1755. The furnishings from the time it was built include a seated wooden figure of St. James from the 15th century. The late baroque organ, built by Georg Fromme from Soest in 1780, can still be seen in the nave today. The high altar was damaged by fire in 1949. On the side altars from 1768/69 there are works by Johann Adam Destadt , a relative and apprentice of Johann Leonhard Falter from Schmallenberg .

During renovation work on the heating system in 1980, the remains of a previous Romanesque church were found. The church is located on the Way of St. James , which leads to Santiago de Compostela .
