Culture and sights

Ottlar Church

St. Margaret's Church

A chapel is mentioned around 1535 . As early as 1855, the Princely Waldeck Consistory approved the financing of a new building. The dilapidated chapel was then torn down around 1870/71, the usable material was kept or sold to finance the new building. The old bell was hung next to the schoolhouse. In 1872 construction began on the new St. Margarethenkirche , which was inaugurated in 1874. The exterior view resembles the Protestant town church in Brilon . The organ was originally built for the Waldecker Schlosskapelle , but came to Ottlar in 1750.

Dommelturm

The Dommelturm has been near the town since 1909, with a view of the Sauerland and an eventful history.

societies

Ottlar's club life is dedicated to public tasks, nature and social and cultural-historical interests. The voluntary work in small towns in North Hesse such as Ottlar was recognized in studies as a remarkable part of safeguarding the future. With the constitutional reform of Hesse in 2018 , the promotion of voluntary work was included as a state goal . The Hessian Minister of State, Axel Wintermeyer, presented a sponsorship award to the association “Together in Ottlar” on August 1, 2018 in Ottlar. Notable clubs in the area are:

  • DRK local association
  • Diemelsee-Ottlar volunteer fire department

Economy and Infrastructure

The place has the Dommelhalle with 400 seats and a meeting room with 45 seats. The next larger place with infrastructure, such as shopping facilities etc. is Adorf. There are service companies in the construction industry, in the automotive industry, a dental technology company, a hairdresser, an agricultural machinery repair company and a Raiffeisen location with a petrol station. In addition, the community fire brigade and an ambulance service of the Johanniter should be mentioned in the public area. The Mittelpunktschule of Adorf is the oldest of its kind in Waldeck. The community's outdoor pool is in Vasbeck, the indoor pool is in Heringhausen. The nearest rail connections are in Bredelar , Korbach and Bad Arolsen.
