geography

location

Benkhausen is located in the Upland in the Diemelsee nature park on the Rhene . State road 3076, the Aartalstraße, runs east of the village . Benkhausen lies between Dortmund and Kassel south of Paderborn , roughly in the middle of a triangle with the corner points Korbach , Brilon and Marsberg . The area allocated to the place is 500 hectares .

Natural structure

In terms of natural space , the location is assigned to the region “332 Ostsauerländer Gebirgsrand” and within it the Vorupländer Hügelland (332.61).

Linguistic geography

The development of local language usage is due to the border location between Hesse and Westphalia. The Benrath Line is a historical language border between North Hessian dialects and Westphalian dialects . The region is also influenced by the Sauerland plateau . The Dat-das-Line follows a similar course in this region. Small-scale linguistic geographical boundaries for the pronunciation of vowels were proven around Benkhausen up to the 20th century.

Culture and sights

church

A chapel was built in Benkhausen around 1541, which was followed by a baroque church in 1687. The local half-timbered church from 1687 had to give way to a new building in 1967. In 1968 a new Protestant church was inaugurated. A 2-part concrete glass window from the construction period is located above the altar. Six more windows were created in 1993 by the glass painter Erhardt Jakobus Klonk. The parish belongs to the Protestant parish of Twiste-Eisenberg
