Windeck is the name of a settlement in the Eibingen district , a district of the city of Rüdesheim am Rhein .
Geographical location
Windeck is 217 meters above sea level in a south-facing position just northeast of the St. Hildegard Abbey above the vineyards of the Rüdesheim district of Eibingen on a mountain nose of the Rheingau mountains that slopes east to the forest valley of the Blaubach , whose valley in turn opens to the southeast towards Geisenheim . The forest-free Ebental plateau rises to the west of Windeck .
Just north of the Windeck settlement, at the houses In der Trift , runs the 50th parallel , based on the old Potsdam date of 1904.
history
The Windeck settlement was created in 1953 with significant support from Klaus Dinse , the then mayor of Rüdesheim and later district administrator of the Rheingau district . Mainly displaced persons and refugees from the Sudetenland , Bohemia, Moravia and Limbach, but also from East Prussia and the Romanian Transylvania, settled here. In addition to the little house, which was often built with a lot of personal effort, there was space for a large garden and for some cattle, at least a few chickens, on generously dimensioned plots . Street names in Windeck are reminiscent of the origins of the residents, such as Sudetenstrasse, Limbacher Weg, Königsberger Strasse or Siebenbürgenstrasse . In 1953, the very first settlers launched the Pentecost, which has been celebrated annually since then .
traffic
The Nothgottesstraße leads as a community connecting road from Eibingen upwards steeply to Windeck and from there gently downhill to the northwest to the nearby pilgrimage site Nothgottes .
