After the core city, Erbach is the second largest district of Bad Camberg in the central Hessian district of Limburg-Weilburg in Central Hesse .

geography

location

Course of the Dombach on Lindenplatz

Erbach lies in the golden bottom of the Hintertaunus , north of the Taunushauptkamm . In the south, Erbach is almost completely merged with the core town of Bad Camberg. The B 8 runs through the town from northwest to southeast . The A3 and the ICE route Frankfurt-Cologne run along the western boundary of the district . The Emsbach and the Dombach flow through Erbach . The district town of Limburg an der Lahn is located around 16 kilometers northwest.

The Erbacher district runs long stretched from southwest to northeast. In the northwest, Erbach borders on Oberselters . This is followed in a clockwise direction by Eisenbach , the Weilroder district of Hasselbach (also the border with the Hochtaunus district ), Schwickershausen , the core town of Bad Camberg and Dauborn . The northeast of the Erbacher district is covered by mixed forest, while in the western part agricultural area predominates. The place itself is in a depression at the confluence of the Dombach in the Emsbach. To the west the area rises abruptly to up to 280 meters, in the east over a longer distance to almost 450 meters on the Stückelberg . The place itself is about 200 meters above sea level.

geology

Geologically, the eastern edge of the district is determined by the heavily slate- containing greywacke . Further to the west, the formation changes into iron-shed schist with quartzite strips with a southwest-northeast course. To the north-east of the location there is a quartz gravel camp, which extends to the north. The western part of the district consists of a thick layer of loess . A lead ore dike begins to the north of the village and continues to Oberselters. In terms of natural space, the place is assigned to the Goldener Grund within the Idsteiner Senke .

history

With a donation to Lorsch Abbey around 768, which Arilbach (today's Erbach) and Widergisa (today Würges ) made together, the two places were first mentioned in a document. Grave finds suggest a Frankish origin of the settlement, which was probably founded in the 6th or 7th century. The first chapel in Erbach was built around 1100, and was mentioned by name as St. George's Chapel in 1328. Due to the dilapidation of the chapel, construction of the Saint Mauritius Church began in 1817 and was completed three years later. Due to the tripling of Erbach's population since 1820, the church was rebuilt in 1969, except for the tower, no parts of the building were taken over from the old church.

In 1961 a new school was built. In 1905 the place was connected to the power grid, from 1910 a central drinking water supply was installed.

The unusually large number of seven water mills that were still in operation in the comparatively small town in the 19th century is interesting in terms of economic history .

Territorial reform

On July 1, 1974, Erbach was incorporated into the city of Camberg with four other municipalities by state law as part of the regional reform in Hesse .

Culture and sights

Historic Buildings

The old cutting mill was first mentioned in 1668. It is a water mill that was built on the Emsbach. The current residential and business building was not built until 1800. The mill has a central cell edge and a three-part wood protection in the Emsbach.

The old school was built in 1828 and completely renovated in 1939. The building was used as a school until 1961 and as a town hall until it was incorporated in 1974.

A mayor's house was built around 1644 and connected to the neighboring building by a gatehouse. The ensemble results in a representative half-timbered system, on which the Franconian bay window of the gate building with its many decorations stands out.

The Brunnenplatz is located in the center of Erbach. The village festival of GV Frohsinn takes place annually on the nearby Lindenplatz.

societies

The "Angelverein 1980" and the soccer club "SV 1930 Erbach" are based in Erbach. There is also the “Judo Club 1973”, the “Kegel Sport Club”, the tennis club “TC Erbach”, the gymnastics club “Frisch auf” and the shooting club “Unity 1929”.

Erbach has the Erbach im Taunus volunteer fire brigade, founded in 1934, and the “Närrisch Erbach” carnival association, and the “St. Mauritius ”, the choral society“ Frohsinn 1848 ”and the men's choir“ Eintracht 1893 ”. There is also the "Beautification Association" (since 1967) and the "Small Animal Breeding Association Erbach". The oldest association is likely to be the “United Craftsmen Guild”, which traces its origins back to the 12th to 14th centuries.
