The Kreuzberg-Wilhelmsberg mine (also Consolidierte Kreuzberg and Wilhelmsberg ) between Weisel in the Rhein-Lahn district and Wollmigart is a former mine in which roofing slate was extracted. The operator was the Blücher union from Kaub , which was divided into 1,000 Kuxe and sold its slate under the name of Kauber Blücher Schiefer . The remaining buildings are now a listed building as a whole .

Geographical location

The Kreuzberg mine is located in the Kreuzwald , an exclave of the Dörscheid district in the headwaters of the Tiefenbach , between Weisel in the west, Wollmigart in the east and Ransel in the south. The buildings of the mine are at a height of 380 meters.

Access possibilities from the east were a junction from the Hessian state road L 3397 at Wollmigart and from the west a junction from the Rhineland-Palatinate L 339 at Kreuzhöherhof .

The Wilhelmsbergstollen is located at a height of about 340 meters in the Wollmigart area north of the village on the Steinbach , which flows into the Werkerbach near the Alte Burg . There are no building remains here.

history

Union Blücher Kauber Blücher Schiefer.png

As early as the 19th century, roof slate was extracted at Weisel first in opencast mining and later also underground . The deposits of the Kauber Zug , which runs north-east through the Hunsrück and Taunus , were dismantled .

The Kreuzberg mine was already in operation before 1863. A new concession to start operations at the Kreuzberg mine was granted in 1868 to a "Roofing Slate Mining Kreuzberg" union. The ownership of the Blücher union was established with the Kreuzberg and Consolidated Wilhelmsberg mines. Wilhelmsberg bei Wollmigart was already merged with the Vogelherd mine in 1866 . The Thalersberg, Antoniusberg, Tiefenthalskopf and Kreuzhau fields were added later.

The mining was carried out using the shaft construction method. A machine shaft was sunk as early as 1863/64 that reached a depth of 35 m. The broken material was brought to the surface in conveyor baskets via a winding tower and processed on site. The reduction was initially on the 30-m sole place on the drainage was made: A 300 m long tunnel led the mine water to the Tiefenbach to. In 1898, the 60-m level, and 1926, the 90-m level were ascended . In the years 1950–54 the mine was approached through the Wilhelmsbergstollen near Wollmigart , but this part of the mine was shut down again as not very productive. In 1964 the greatest depth was reached with the 110 m level.

In 1978 the mine was flooded, on November 28, 1980 the mine had to be closed due to a lack of safety technology and a shortage of skilled workers. Shortly afterwards the headframe was laid down and the shaft system closed. Since then, the pit has been used to produce drinking water for the communities of Wollmigart and Ransel .

Several buildings belonging to the mine ensemble were destroyed in a fire on the night of July 22nd to 23rd, 1982.

The sculptor Clemens M. Strugalla has had his workshop on the site of the former mine since 1988 .
