Geological map of the Rhenish Slate Mountains

The Kauber Zug is a slate train within the Rhenish Slate Mountains , in which the slate layers appear in a building-worthy quality to form the horizon .

Emergence

The originally horizontal layers of the Kauber Zug were created within the Greywacke slate and quartz deposits of the Devonian . By folds and thrusts layers are equipped with a dip caused by 70 ° or more in the southeast direction.

location

Beginning in the Idarwald on the left bank of the Rhine, the Kauber Zug crosses the Rhine between Bacharach and Oberwesel and continues on the right bank of the Rhine in a north-easterly direction via Kaub and Weisel to Usingen . The deposits at Kaub are at their greatest extent and represent a top level in terms of their usability . For this reason, they gave the entire train its name.
