List of mines in the Spessart

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mining in the Spessart was first mentioned around 1400 for the community of Hailer . Iron , copper , silver and lead were mined , later also cobalt , manganese and barite . The largest metal ore deposit was near Biebergemünd . Mining always played a regional role, the deposits were small.

The deposit contains seams of Kupferletten and contains copper - arsenic - sulfides ( tennantite , enargite , silver- bearing ), copper- iron sulfides ( copper pyrites , bornite ) and arsenides ( lollingite , arsenic pebbles ).
