Großkahl lies at 250 m above sea level. NN in the upper Kahlgrund on the state road 2305 between Großlaudenbach and Wiesen . The Kahl separates Großkahl from Kleinahl. To the west of Großkahl is the village of Unterwestern , to the east is Edelbach . The topographically highest point of the village mark is on Lindenberg, northeast of the village at 458 m above sea level. NN , the lowest is on the Kahl at 230 m above sea level. NN . The Habersberg (428 m) extends to the north . The Kahltal-Spessart cycle path leads through Großkahl .
Surname
The village takes its name from the river Kahl (see name of the Kahl ), which flows through the village. The suffix "Groß" was added to distinguish the village from Kleinkahl, Sommerkahl , Feldkahl and Kahl am Main .
history
The municipality of Großkahl belonged to the Alzenau district office , which was formed on July 1, 1862. On January 1, 1939, this became part of the Alzenau district in Lower Franconia .
On January 1, 1972, the previously independent community was incorporated into Edelbach.
