I wanna be Santa Claus The Anthology ... So Far
2001

I Wanna Be Santa Claus is the 18th album or the twelfth studio album by Ringo Starr after the Beatles split up . It was released in Great Britain (US: October 18, 1999) on October 19, 1999.

History of origin

After the release of his studio album Vertical Man in June 1998, Ringo Starr decided to be the first ex-Beatle to record a full Christmas album. Previously, John Lennon with the single Happy Xmas (War Is Over) (December 1971), George Harrison with the single / the album title Ding Dong, Ding Dong (December 1974) and Paul McCartney with the single Wonderful Christmastime (November 1979) had special Songs released for the Christmas season.

It is the second studio album that Mark Hudson and Ringo Starr produced together.

The first composition activities of Mark Hudson and Ringo Starr for the album took place in July 1998; six of the twelve songs are new compositions in which Ringo Starr was one of the co-composers. Another five songs (Winter Wonderland , The Little Drummer Boy , Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer , Blue Christmas and White Christmas ) are new recordings of Christmas carols known in Great Britain and the USA. Christmas Time (Is Here Again) is a re-recording of the Beatles song that was used for a Christmas single on December 15, 1967 and that was sent to members by the official Beatles fan club. The Beatles version of Christmas Time (Is Here Again) also appeared as the B-side of the single Free as a Bird in December 1995.

The recordings for the album stretched between September 1998 and September 1999 mainly in the Whatinthewhatthe? Studios in Los Angeles. The songs were then mixed in the A&M Studios.

The Christmas album was commercially unsuccessful, so the record deal with Mercury was terminated after three releases (Vertical Man, VH1 Storytellers and I Wanna Be Santa Claus) .

Cover design

The cover was designed by Ringo Starr, Mark Hudson, Sonia Ives, Odine Blue and Allyson Spellacy, as well as other people not mentioned. The CD is accompanied by a twelve-page leaflet that can be opened and is illustrated, which contains information about the songs and the album as well as the lyrics.
