Ringo Rama is the 21st music album , respectively the 13th studio album by Ringo Starr after the separation of the Beatles . It was released in Europe on March 25, 2003 (USA: March 24, 2003).

History of origin

After the release of his studio album I Wanna Be Santa Claus in October 1999, which only contained Christmas carols, Ringo Starr decided to continue the musical concept of Vertical Man . It is the third studio album that Mark Hudson and Ringo Starr produced together. Most of the compositional work was again carried out by Ringo Starr, Mark Hudson, Steve Dudas and Dean Grakal. Furthermore, prominent musicians such as David Gilmour , Eric Clapton and Willie Nelson were involved in this album.

In contrast to Vertical Man , this album was not commercially successful.

The little information about the album comes from an interview with Jody Denberg, which was published in November 2003 as part of the US deluxe edition. According to Ringo Starr, a total of 16 songs were recorded, eleven of them in Great Britain mainly in the Rocca Bella Studio and five more in Los Angeles in the USA. The recording dates for the album are not documented, they probably stretched between spring 2002 and autumn / winter 2002, this period can be found in the interview. In 2002 Ringo Starr was not on tour with the All-Starr Band.

The songs were mixed in the Astoria Studios.

Ringo Starr originally wanted to write the song Never Without You in memory of John Lennon , George Harrison and Harry Nilsson , but then decided to dedicate it exclusively to George Harrison. The song was recorded four months after George Harrison's death, according to Ringo Starr.

Overall, the album seems more “rock-oriented” musically than its previous albums.

Ringo Rama was Ringo Starr's second album to be released on Koch Records.

In June 2003 Ringo Starr recorded the song Boys with Jools Holland & his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra , which was released on the album Jack O the Green Small World Big Band Friends 3 .
