Y Not is the 30th album or the 16th studio album by Ringo Starr after the separation of the Beatles . It was released in Europe on February 26, 2010 (USA: January 12, 2010).

History of origin

Ringo Starr split from longtime producer Mark Hudson while recording Liverpool 8 , making his first studio album as executive producer. Starr co-produced Bruce Sugar, who previously worked as a sound engineer on Liverpool 8 .

Although Ringo Starr announced the end of their collaboration with his backing band The Roundheads after the completion of the studio album Liverpool 8 , Steve Dudas continued to play guitar on the album and Ringo Starr composed the song Can't Do It Wrong with Gary Burr .

The recording times for the album are not documented, they probably extended over the year 2009. Prominent musicians such as Paul McCartney , Joe Walsh , David A. Stewart and Joss Stone were involved in this album . There were also (former) members of the All-Starr Band such as Richard Marx , Billy Squier and Edgar Winter .

Ringo Starr was a co-composer for each of the ten songs. According to Ringo Starr, all compositions of the songs were created in the studio. Two duets were released on the album, Who's Your Daddy with Joss Stone, who was also a co-composer, and Walk with You with Paul McCartney, who also played bass on the song Peace Dream , which is about the performances of John Lennon and Ringo Starr Peace acts. The song Y Not contains musical references to George Harrison . Everyone Wins is a new recording of a song that was released in September 1992 on the CD single Don't Go Where the Road Don't Go in Germany. The song The Other Side of Liverpool is the second homage after Liverpool 8 from the album of the same name to Starr's hometown, with partly autobiographical text.

Y Not is Ringo Starr's first album to be released by Universal Music Group . In the USA, Y Not achieved the second highest chart position since Ringo's Rotogravure , which appeared in 1976.
