Ringo Starr and His All-Starr Band is the twelfth album, or rather the first live album by Ringo Starr after the separation of the Beatles . It was released on October 15, 1990 in Great Britain (USA: October 12, 1990).

History of origin

After the release of the commercially unsuccessful compilation album Starr Struck: Best of Ringo Starr, Vol. 2 in February 1989, Ringo Starr tried to reactivate his career.

Between January and June 1989, 20 episodes of the series Thomas the Tank Engine were broadcast in the USA, in which Ringo Starr is one of the narrative voices. The series was particularly successful with children under ten.

On March 27, 1989, Ringo Starr recorded with Buck Owens the song Act Naturally , which was released as a single in July of the same year, but could not place in the charts. A video was also recorded for the song. Starr had the Owens hit in 1965 for the Beatles album Help! recorded.

On June 20, 1989, Ringo Starr announced at the Palladium Theater in New York that he would tour the USA with friends as Ringo Starr and His All-Starr Band . From July 23rd to September 4th 1989 the All-Starr Band gave 23 concerts. The last two concerts were recorded in Los Angeles for the live album and live video.

The concept of the performances of the All-Starr Band is that Ringo Starr both opens and ends the concerts with his songs and sings one or two songs between the performances of the other artists, otherwise he plays the drums. The artists who accompanied Ringo Starr on the upcoming tours had mostly passed the zenith of their careers. The full program of concerts on the 1989 tour was as follows:

  1. It don't come easy
  2. No no song
  3. Yellow Submarine
  4. Iko Iko or Such a Night ( Dr. John )

After the album was released, the record contract in Europe with EMI was not renewed.

Ringo Starr sang five of the twelve songs on the CD.
