VH1 Storytellers is the 17th music album and the fourth live album by Ringo Starr after the Beatles split up . It was released in Great Britain (USA: October 20, 1998) on October 19, 1998.

History of origin

Even before the release date of the last studio album Vertical Man in June 1998, Ringo Starr began with the promotion work for this album. To do this, he went on a short advertising tour with his studio band Ringo and the Roundheads . The first concert took place on May 12, 1998 at the Bottom Line Cabaret in New York . The second concert was recorded as a live video and live CD as part of the VH1 Storytellers series at Sony Music Studios in New York. The title of the concert was enriched with little stories about the origins of the songs. Questions from the audience were also answered by Ringo Starr. The concert was first broadcast on TV station VH-1 on June 28, 1998 in the USA.

Ringo Starr and the Roundheads had another appearance for VH-1 on June 17, 1998, again at Sony Music Studios; this was first broadcast on September 11, 1998. The following songs were broadcast live as part of the hard rock series :

  1. Photographer
  2. La De Da
  3. I was walkin '
  4. Medley: Love Me Do / With a Little Help from My Friends

There was no legal CD or video release for these songs.

Cover design

The cover designed Sandra Monteparo. The cover photos were taken by Marc Bryan-Brown. The CD comes with a hinged, illustrated eight-page booklet that contains information about the songs and the album.
