Old Wave Starr Struck: Best of Ringo Starr, Vol. 2
1989

Old Wave is the tenth album or the ninth studio album by Ringo Starr after the Beatles split up . It was released in Germany on June 16, 1983. The album was not released in the USA and Great Britain. The first release in the USA took place in September 1994 with the appearance of the album in CD format.

History of origin

After the release of his last album Stop and Smell the Roses in November 1981, the promotional work dragged on until January 1982; then Ringo Starr planned to record a studio album again. Ringo Starr hired Joe Walsh , a member of the Eagles , to produce.

The recordings for the album lasted from March 7th to April 23rd, 1982 in Ringo Starr's own recording studio , Startling Studios , which he acquired in September 1973 through the purchase of John Lennon's titshurst Park property. It was in this studio that John Lennon recorded the album Imagine in 1971 .

Joe Walsh made further work on the album with a time delay at Santa Barbara Sound Recording in California (USA) until August 30th. Joe Walsh contributed a composition to the album and composed five other songs with Ringo Starr and others. In addition to two other so-called oldies (I Keep Forgettin ' and She's About a Mover) , two more songs by third-party composers were recorded for the album: Picture Show Life and a new recording of As Far as We Can Go; the original was in July 1978 in Copenhagen ( Denmark ) in the Sweet Silence Studios added.

According to the CD booklet, there should be another but incomplete recording of the song Love Letters . After the death of the president of the record company Boardwalk Records , Ringo Starr's record deal in the USA was over. RCA only released the album in Canada , Australia , New Zealand , Japan and parts of South America. In Germany, Old Wave was distributed by Bellaphon .

Ringo Starr's next studio album, Time Takes Time , was not released until nine years later, in June 1992 .

Cover design

The cover was designed by Jeff Lancaster. The cover photos were taken by Ron Slenzak (back cover) and with a photo booth (front cover) in the early 1960s.
